DATA SCIENCE CO-LEAD

Ofentse Rice-Phuti is a co-organizer at WiMLDS Gaborone, a position that allows her to do what she is passionate about: community development in data science and machine learning.

She holds an MSc from Carnegie Mellon University Africa and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science from the University of Botswana. Currently, she holds a data science role that enables her to build products used by people in the remotest parts of Sub-Saharan Africa.

She has 7 years of experience as a teaching assistant for programming and discrete mathematics courses with the University of Botswana and a 1-year teaching assistant position for an entrepreneurship course for master's students at Carnegie Mellon University Africa. She has worked with Spectrum Analytics Botswana as a trainer and led coding and robotics training for the 2019 National Science Week and STEM Festival in Botswana.

In her spare time, she partners with organizations that have the same interests; as such, she provides digital training sessions for SHE ROCK Female Accelerator Program with Abeyie Innovation Studio, partners with schools to provide mentorship, and gives talks and practical sessions in the community development space. She has also served as a Zindi Community Ambassador for Botswana for a year.
